Welcome from the Vicar

St Barnabas’ – The Church which strives to serve the whole community of Old Heath.

St Barnabas’ is a building that may at first be described as plain on the outside (the current building was erected in the early 1950’s replacing the original 1870 building) but warm and beautiful inside. It is open for private prayer daily from 8.45 am, as well as for regular services throughout the day.

The Parish Church of the Parish of Old Heath, St Barnabas’ is situated just outside Colchester. The church sits in the Archdeaconry of Colchester, within the Diocese of Chelmsford (under the Suffragan Bishop of Colchester) and has petitioned the Bishop of Richborough for Sacramental Oversight.

For information about the life of the church, please take a look at the latest Pewsheet, or for more information about both church and community, please have a look at the Magazine. The Events page also contains information about events in St. Barnabas and around Old Heath; and is worth a look at.

The Church is the centre of community life and our halls are full of life and activity day by day. Our main services are on Sunday at 10am and 6.30pm but the Holy Communion is celebrated Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as well (seasonal variations may occur – see Magazine, Pewsheet or Sunday pages). Morning and Evening prayer is said daily (except Friday). For more information – see the Weekday or Sunday services pages.

I have been the Vicar since 2003. If I can be of service, please contact me.

Why not join us? A warm welcome is assured.

Rev’d Richard E. Tillbrook, SSC

Vicar of Old Heath

  1. We visited your lovely church back in October by invitation of Michael Topple. We were very impressed and it felt to be ‘well loved’. Peter
